Whether you have young kids who enjoy snuggling up to a good bedtime story, or are planning a long road trip and need something to pass the time over the miles or simply enjoy listening to a good story while folding laundry, the audible phenomena has opened my eyes and ears to an exciting new world.  It was as I was listening to my third book on audible when I decided I too needed to get involved with this remarkable tool.  The question became how?  God knows it wasn't in my budget to hire an actor and studio to produce an audio book and so like most things I had to figure out how to do it myself, but could I?  Sure I've read books to my children when they were young.  I even did a few readings of Myth in public, but that was the extent of the experience I had in reading aloud.  My daughter however, had quite a bit of experience in voice work, having worked on several cartoons and ADR for films she was in.  Having done a number of past projects together, I set up a meeting to discuss the possibilities of producing the audible book together. After a test session and a bottle of wine we concluded it was worth a try, however we had to first put some sound baffles into her studio.  These baffles help contain the sound, preventing reverb distortions and outside noises from entering the room, thus making the finished sound more crisp and clear.  We found some two inch baffles on amazon and after doing an approximation of cost we figured it was worth the effort as I'd be able to utilize the studio for subsequent books and she'd be able to utilize it for her music.  So delving right in we ordered the baffles and I got straight to practicing my reading skills, but little did we know how much work we had ahead of us.  Stay tuned for more on our adventures with this audio book project.
